Just Different
Learning about disability
Summary
Design of templates and brochure for Just Different, a fledgling charity who specialise in educating children and young people about disability and difference.
Objective
JustDifferent was set up by Toby Hewson, a young man with cerebral palsy who spends a lot of time raising awareness about disability issues. Coming as he does from a position of first-hand experience of the issues that can be involved adds a lot of weight to what he has to share. JustDifferent provide educational workshops, seminars, training programmes and presentations with a view to helping society improve the way children and young people think about and respond to disability and difference.
Dharmafly approached BridgingUnit to provide visual design services for the project and this broke down into 2 parts: the website and a brochure.
Solution
Designing the website meant production of a set of non-functioning prototypes (mockups) which could be passed onto the coder of the site who was going to wrangle Wordpress into providing its dynamic backbone. Producing the design was made easier because of the helpful competitive research the client had done beforehand which meant that we were provided with strong clues about how the site should look and feel and what they had in mind - it was important for their audience (teachers and school children) that it should be clear, easy to use, open, lively and friendly.
The brochure had to appeal to a similar demographic and continue the same brand colours and feeling to print. In conjunction with Dharmafly, we liased with the printers (Posthouse Printing) and Royal Mail to produce an attractive tri-fold brochure which also included a perforated cut-out Freepost postcard so that teachers could register their interest in available workshops.
