Project case study
Open Churches
Using the web to keep churches open
Summary
Development of online strategy for a regional group of churches
Objective
The section of the diocese of Norfolk responsible for tourism planned to co-ordinate the churches within its authority so that they could share best practice, improve their facilties and enjoy a renewed vigour through their use as local centres of tourism in addition to their usual position as places of worship.
Solution
Together we developed a stepped strategy for the development of a website to reflect and support the project’s ambitions.
The first step was to collate relevant existing documentary material and make some sense of it all. Editing this together with new material to cover any gaps provided the necessary copywritten content for the site. Being a small site this could also act as the information architecture - expressing the structure and organisation of the site. A logo and colour scheme were put together to form the basis of the visual brand. From this production of a visual mockup to illustrate look and feel of website could take place, whose design was informed by an awareness of the site’s intended audience.
Development was put on hold due to funding issues and then later continued under the auspices of a different company.
