Software on demand

Similar to web services (and sometimes using them), perhaps you’ve heard of this as software on demand or software as service.

Traditionally you’ve installed software onto one place - your computer or network. Now that the internet has matured to a degree and access become more ubiquitous, cheaper and faster there’s a multitude of offerings out there now who provide services that can replace your traditional software or who provide facilities that your old software couldn’t. These services are accessible via the internet which means that your data is no longer tied to one machine and in turn means that you can work from anywhere that has a connection to the net (fuelling the rise in remote working, something we’re very keen on here).

All the big players are staking their claim on this because it threatens to undermine the old software paradigm.
